On iPad, Mac & iPhone
Duo wallpapers on iPad, Mac & iPhone.
The masters are 1.42 : 1 landscape — closer to an iPad or a laptop than to a phone. Here is what each screen does with them.
The shape that matters
Every master here is 2892 × 2034, a ratio of 1.42 : 1. Any screen fills itself with the image and crops whatever does not fit, so the question for each device is how far its shape is from 1.42, and whether it has to enlarge the image to fill.
| Screen | Shape | What you lose | Sharp? |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPad, landscape | about 4 : 3 (1.33) | ~3% at each side | Yes, up to ~2048 px tall |
| iPad, portrait | about 3 : 4 | All but the central ~53% | Soft on large iPads |
| MacBook | about 1.54 : 1 | ~4% at top and bottom | Yes; a 16-inch enlarges it ~1.2× |
| 16 : 9 monitor | 1.78 : 1 | ~10% at top and bottom | Yes at 1080p and 1440p; soft at 4K and 5K |
| Other iPhones | about 1 : 2.17 | All but the central ~33% | Slightly soft (enlarged ~1.4×) |
Shapes are approximate and vary by model; the point is the direction. Screens close to 1.42 keep almost everything.
iPad
The best fit after the Duo itself. In landscape an iPad trims a sliver from each side and the composition survives intact. In portrait you see the central strip, much like the Duo's cover — which our designs are composed for, so the subject stays in frame.
Mac and PC
Laptops are a little wider than 1.42, so the image is cropped top and bottom instead. On macOS, set it with System Settings → Wallpaper and choose Fill Screen. On a 4K or 5K display the master is enlarged, so busy designs look softer than calm ones — the Minimal and Dark collections hold up best.
Other iPhones and Android phones
A regular phone is tall and narrow, so it shows only the central third of the width, enlarged about 1.4×. Designs whose subject sits in the middle work; designs built around the crease lose the point. Space, Animals and the breakout designs travel well; fold gags do not.
What to download
The same master for every device — there is no separate iPad or desktop file. Download it from any design page; it is free, with no watermark.
Questions
| Can I use iPhone Duo wallpapers on an iPad? | Yes, and they fit well. In landscape an iPad trims about 3% from each side; in portrait it shows the central strip, which is where our designs keep the subject. |
|---|---|
| Will an iPhone Duo wallpaper work on a Mac? | Yes. Choose Fill Screen in System Settings → Wallpaper. A MacBook crops a little from the top and bottom; on 4K and 5K displays the image is enlarged and calm designs look best. |
| Can I use them on a normal iPhone or an Android phone? | Yes, but the phone shows only the central third, enlarged about 1.4×. Choose designs with the subject in the middle rather than ones built around the fold. |
| Is there a separate file for iPad or desktop? | No. Every design is one 2892 × 2034 master, and each device crops it to fit. |
