How to set a wallpaper

How to set a wallpaper on the iPhone Duo.

Two displays, two images, about two minutes. Here is the whole procedure — and what to do when a photo comes out zoomed.

Before you start: pick the right image

A foldable does not have one wallpaper, it has one per display, and the two displays are different shapes. Get the files first:

Every design on this site ships both, exported from the same artwork. The size guide has the full reasoning if you want to make your own.

Save both files to Photos — on a Mac or PC, AirDrop or iCloud Photos is the least fiddly route — then pick the screen you use most and start there.

Set it from Settings

This is the route Apple documents, and the one that gives you the most control:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Wallpaper.
  3. Tap Add New Wallpaper.
  4. Tap Photos and choose the image you saved. Photo Shuffle is the alternative if you want several designs rotating.
  5. Adjust the crop and style if you want to. Then tap Add.
  6. Tap Set as Wallpaper Pair to use the same image on both the Lock Screen and the Home Screen, or Customize Home Screen to give the Home Screen something different.

Set it from the Lock Screen

Faster, and the way most people actually change wallpapers day to day:

  1. Touch and hold the Lock Screen until it lifts.
  2. Swipe to the wallpaper you want, or tap the + button to create a new one.
  3. Use Customize to edit the current one rather than starting over.

You can swipe up on a wallpaper in that gallery to delete it, and if the gallery asks for Face ID you can touch and hold the Lock Screen again and enter your passcode instead.

Set it from Photos

  1. Open the image in Photos.
  2. Tap Share, then Use as Wallpaper.
  3. Adjust and confirm.

Which image goes on which screen

Put the 2670 × 1878 file on the inner display and the 1398 × 2034 file on the cover. Both are crops of the same design, so the phone reads as one object open or closed:

If the image looks zoomed or cropped

Make the two screens match

Use the same design for both displays. Because both files come from one master, the subject sits in the same place on each screen and the phone looks deliberate rather than assembled. If you want to be more precise, open the design's page and use See it on the phone — the simulator shows both cuts on a folding phone before you commit.

The Settings and Lock Screen steps follow Apple's published instructions for changing an iPhone wallpaper; the ordering of screens on a two-display phone is our own summary.

Questions

How do I set a wallpaper on the iPhone Duo?Open Settings, tap Wallpaper, tap Add New Wallpaper, choose Photos, pick the image, tap Add, then Set as Wallpaper Pair. You can also touch and hold the Lock Screen and use the gallery, or open the image in Photos and choose Share, then Use as Wallpaper.
Do I need two different images?Yes. The inner display is 2670 × 1878 and the cover is 1398 × 2034; they are different shapes. Setting one image on both screens means one of them is cropped hard. Every design on this site is exported twice for exactly this reason.
Why does my wallpaper look zoomed in?The image is the wrong aspect ratio for that display — usually a standard iPhone wallpaper used on the much wider inner screen. Download the size made for the screen you are setting.
Can I use my own photo?Yes. Crop it to 2670 × 1878 for the inner display and 1398 × 2034 for the cover, and keep the subject away from the centre line if you would rather not see the crease run through it.
